This historical publication marked the turning point in my photography career.

The sub editor of one of the largest magazine publications in the country saw a print of this bee lying on my table during an interview with me for an unrelated project that I was working on at the time.

He immediately snapped it up and asked if I would sell the magazine the rights to publish it on their front cover.

June 21 marks the anniversary of that historic publication, a dream come true for any young photographer.

I started out doing private commissions 20 years ago and shortly thereafter this event catapulted me into the exciting commercial arena

I had shot this image because I was intrigued by all the closely matching colors. To add some extra interest meant waiting very patiently to get the sunlight to reflect perfectly on its wing.

Light and color have always fascinated me and have become my artistic signature over the years.

I am eternally grateful to the late Mr Louw Pretorius for the opportunity of a lifetime
