First impressions are lasting impressions and this is based mainly on the ability of our subconscious to interpret visual elements at about 60,000 times faster than text.
FAKE
Consumers are bombarded with counterfeit and cheaply made goods and will judge the value of your offering on their first impression of your main image.
Then if they happen to enter your store, their suspicions will be further reinforced by cheaply produced images of low budget operators.
Amazon requires the main image to have a pure white background. It is not that easy to achieve in camera so many resort to cheap clipping of the product edges to add a white
background. The result = FAKE.
Our brain knows that light comes mainly from above or the side and will cast shadows both on the product and floor.
If the floor is removed, then something doesn't quite look right.
REAL
In this image I demonstrate the effect of both shadows and reflections. Then for shiny or light colored objects, the floor shadow is also visible in the product as can be seen in the cap and base of this bottle. Remove the floor and immediately your subconscious will know.
(Amazon does now seem to allow some shadows and reflections)
